How 72 News makes a news video
From a published report to a 30-second video: what is automated, what is checked, and what a person still does.
72 News turns reporting from established outlets into short vertical videos. Here is the process, step by step.
Choosing a story
A story comes from public reporting by an established news organisation. We read the article itself, not just the headline. If the article does not contain enough detail to summarise accurately, we do not make a video about it.
Writing the script
An AI model drafts a short script based only on the article. It is told not to add facts, numbers, names or quotes that are not in the source, and not to speak the outlet's name in the voiceover.
Checking it
A second automated check compares the script with the article. If the script contradicts the source, the video is not rendered.
Voice and images
The voice is synthetic. Images are licensed stock photos chosen to fit the topic. They usually do not show the people or the event in the story, and the video carries an AI label.
Crediting the source
The outlet that did the reporting is named on screen in every video, and the same credit appears on the matching story page here, with a link to the original.
A person decides
The videos are reviewed by a person before they are published. If we get something wrong, we correct it and say so. See our standards page for how to report an error.
